As part of the annual IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast initiative, and in collaboration with the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society, we are hosting an online panel discussion on Feb 16th, starting at 8am. Our panel features three incredible chemists who will talk about their experiences as leaders in the field. Join us to hear from Dr. Katherine Lee, Head of Scientific Planning and Operations at Pfizer, Dr. Jennifer Maclachlan, Managing Director at PID Analyzers and Dr. Leila Deravi, Assistant Professor at Northeastern University. Description

In a recent NIH study, associations of higher indoor carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations with impaired work performance, increased health symptoms, and poorer perceived air quality have been attributed to correlation of indoor CO2. At levels above 600 ppm CO2, testing was done at 1000 ppm CO2 and they found that moderate and statistically significant decrements occurred in six of nine scales of decision-making performance. To keep the level of CO2 below 600 ppm a new CO2 controller has been developed by PID Analyzers that would automatically work with the HVAC system to increase additional intake air to reduce the CO2. An additional CO2 analyzer would analyze the intake air to ensure that the CO2 level was low. If the intake air was too high then a room CO2 scrubber (using a carbon or molecular sieve or metal oxide cartridge) could be used to reduce the CO2 to an acceptable level. This would lead to improved productivity of the workforce.
