Innovation, entrepreneurship and chemistry: support from SCHB / ACS

The Small Chemical Business Division of the American Chemical Society is participating actively in the ACS Entrepreneurship Initiatives designed to create jobs and meet the challenges of tomorrow. Our goals and strategies encompass 1) Helping entrepreneurs create jobs by facilitating more affordable access to key resources like information, expertise, important services for startups [HR, finance, etc.], and mentorship 2) Improving the business environment for startups by increasing advocacy of relevant policies at the federal and state levels 3) Partnering with academic institutions to promote awareness of career options that involve entrepreneurship 4) Publicizing the challenges and successes of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in the chemical enterprise.

New York State has invested in the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) at the Rochester Institute of Technology to work in collaboration with academia (Clarkson, RPI and University at Buffalo), industries and communities on the development & implementation of innovative solutions that create jobs, reduce environmental footprint and contribute towards a more sustainable New York. NYSP2I has 7 core programs to carry out this mission including Direct Client Assistance, Applied Research, Green Technology Accelerator Center (GTAC) and Sustainable Supply Chain & Technology (SSC&T). NYSP2I also utilizes sustainability tools such as life-cycle assessment and Lean, Energy & Environment (LE2) to assist companies in developing future designs, optimizing manufacturing processes and reducing manufacturing costs and environmental footprint. 

This presentation will focus on NYSP2I's core industrial programs and associated case studies that describe the implementation of solutions for industries and communities in NYS.

It is the largest federal source of seed capital for early-stage technology businesses. We have 7,500 members in our Northeastern Section and our monthly meetings normally take place in the Greater Boston area.
